Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3) Mid-term Review

Updated: Jul 10, 2023

The Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3) programme, started in 2018, seeks to improve sexual and reproductive health (SRH), gender, and education outcomes for adolescents and young people (AYP) in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The objectives of the programme are to:

• Secure and sustain strong political commitment and support for AYP’s access to comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) and SRH services across SSA; • Deliver accurate, rights-based, and good quality CSE programmes that provide the knowledge, attitudes, and skills essential for gender equality, safer behaviours, and reduced adolescent pregnancy; • Support provision of safer, healthier, and more inclusive school and community environments for all young people; • Strengthen the evidence base on CSE and safer school environments.

The O3 programme is the largest CSE programme in Africa, operating in 33 countries in SSA. By 2022, the programme is expected to reach 24.9 million learners in 72 000 primary and secondary schools, and 51 000 pre- and 402 000 in-service teachers. Additionally, it expects to reach 31 million people (parents, guardians, religious leaders, and young people out of school) through community engagement activities and 10 million young people through social and new media platforms.
